Sagaj - the Vision
What I really want is a virtual reality fantasy world that evolves
by itself and that millions of people can wander around in with fantastic
avatars and have wonderous adventures. But alas, I feel that this is not
possible to program with todays technology, even with a large budget and
team to back you up, far less with two people in their spare time, so we
decided to set our goals to something just a little smaller.
Here are some dreams that might (just might) be possible:
- we tried to keep the model and the view as seperate as possible in
our design, so hopefully it might be possible to add 3D Graphics some time,
maybe to the (planned :)) dungeons first, Marion's idea and he would maybe
like to do this
- generate a large pseudo-random world with hundreds of Islands that
the player can travel around in
- make the world evolve and change by itself (monsters are born, trees
grow and so on)
- a game of Sagaj should span several generations of heros and culminate
in a massive final showdon with the evil UBERbeing, after that you have won
and get added to some central high-score list so you can brag to your buddies
- if it ever gets to that stage, Sagaj is done
- then comes the Massively Multiplayer Version - dubbed "Sagaj - Next
Generation" for now, where every player leads a group of heroes, all in the
same world
- one central Island ("the hub"), is the meeting point for heros from
all over on a central server, to trade and chat
- each hero-guild owns a group of Islands that they can allow other players
to enter and that run on their own machines and that they can tinker with,
fight wars on and so on
- well it gets kind of foggy here....more great things :)
